7 Ways LASIK Improves Your Life

LASIK is a common eye surgery that corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the LASIK procedure, the surgeon uses a laser to create a flap on the surface of the eye (the cornea) then uses another laser to reshape the cornea to correct the vision.

Wondering if LASIK could be the right procedure for you? Here are 7 ways LASIK will improve your life!

1. Restores Eyesight

LASIK is quite effective. The procedure fixes vision with low risk when using a laser to create the flap.  (Our practice has been all-laser LASIK since 2004!)  After the procedure, most patients no longer need contacts or glasses to see.

Although it’s not guaranteed, many patients that have LASIK end up with 20/20 vision or better! For most, if you have an up-to-date and accurate prescription, you should expect to see how you see out of your glasses/contacts after having LASIK.  Can you imagine not needing to wear glasses or contacts anymore and SEE?

2. Effective Treatment

Most notice an immediate difference in vision moments after their procedure and most will gain 90% of their overall outcome by the very next day.  Vision can fluctuate for a few days after the procedure but is treated with lubricating drops.

Follow-up treatment might be necessary if you are over or under-corrected after your first procedure.  Enhancements are typically performed within the first year after your initial procedure.  Only 3% of our LASIK patients need an enhancement.  VisionPoint Eye Center only invests in the best technology so you are more likely to be ecstatic with your visual outcome after your first procedure.

3. Health Benefits

If you have contact lenses, touching your eyes every day can cause irritation, infections, or put allergens in your eyes. After LASIK, you will likely no longer need contacts, allowing you to reduce how much you touch your eyes.

4. Fast and Safe

Getting LASIK is safer than ever and fast.  You are in the LASIK suite for about 15 – 20 minutes, but the treatment takes less than 3 minutes for both eyes.  As mentioned previously, VisionPoint Eye Center only uses a laser to create the flap (versus a blade.)  It’s incredibly safe and only takes seconds.  Also, when you enter the LASIK suite, your prescription and pictures of each of your eyes are pre-loaded into the laser.  As a part of your procedure, the laser will take a picture of your eye to match the picture loaded into the laser.  It has to be an exact match to treat – it is 100% impossible to treat your eye with another person’s prescription or even treat your right eye with your left eye’s prescription (and vice versa.)  It is an extremely safe procedure.

5. Recreational Improvements

With better vision, you can engage in your favorite activities without the fear of losing a contact or breaking your glasses.  Think of a time when you had to stop doing what you were doing to fix your contacts or adjust your glasses.  What a pain!  You may have even put yourself or others at risk (losing a contact while driving.)  After living the “LASIK life” for a minute, you’ll hardly remember what it’s like to live life with glasses or contacts.

6. Affordable

LASIK has never been more affordable! The procedure is a financial investment, but it’s worth the cost.

Although it’s tempting to get a cheap deal, you’re better off going to a qualified and experienced eye surgeon.  (Can you really put a price tag on the only two eyes you will ever have?)  Our surgeons have all been performing LASIK surgery since 1997.  That’s a LOT of experience!

In the long term, you end up saving money by getting LASIK. Look at what you spend on contact solution, buying contacts, and replacing glasses every year.  Then, compare it to how much you’ll spend on LASIK.  LASIK pays for itself within 5 years for the average person.  Imagine what you could do with that extra money if you didn’t have to pay for these things every year!

7. Faster Recovery

Recovery after LASIK is quick.  There are no stitches or bandages with LASIK since the cornea heals on its own. Patients can return to most of their normal activities within 24 hours.

There are some things you’ll need to avoid during your recovery.  Be sure to read the January 5, 2021 blog with the details about the recovery process after LASIK!
