Dr. Huettemann grew up in central Illinois and received a degree in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University. In 1992, he earned his Doctor of Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He completed his training at the Illinois Eye Institute along with an externship rotation at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Huettemann joined McLean County Eye Center in 1997 and became a managing partner in 2000. He is one of seven owners of VisionPoint Eye Center.
Dr. Huettemann is Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry. He is a Transitions Lenses ProForum Emeritus advisor, a Sight Ministries International Board Member and a Founding Board Member of Empty the Orphanages Ministries in Zimbabwe, Africa.
His postgraduate education has included advanced vision therapy and extensive training in ocular pharmacology for the treatment and management of eye disease. His focus is also in diseases of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye. Dr. Huettemann specializes in the fit and medical use of contact lenses, such as scleral lenses for keratoconus, corneal scarring or irregularities and other eye conditions that make fitting contacts a challenge.
In his spare time, Dr. Huettemann likes to golf, ski and spend time with his wife and four daughters. Dr. Huettemann is passionate about serving third-world countries by providing eye exams, glasses and sunglasses to children and adults. He has been on nine mission trips to eight different countries around the world.
