Dr. Brownstone was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He earned his degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of California at Berkeley and his Doctor of Medicine at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Brownstone came to Central Illinois after serving in the United States Air Force as chief of the ophthalmology department at Scott Air Force Base Medical Center.
His professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Brownstone is also Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and maintains an active general ophthalmology practice for adults. He specializes in cataract surgery, iLASIK, ASA, blepharoplasty and Botox injection.
Dr. Brownstone enjoys the combination of surgery and general medicine in his practice, and the best part of his job is the look on patients’ faces following iLASIK and cataract surgery.
Outside of the office, Dr. Brownstone is a trained classical pianist. He often performs for fundraisers and church functions and plays chamber music with his wife and two children. Dr. Brownstone has also been an executive member of the Illinois Symphony Board of Directors for several years. He enjoys SCUBA diving, saltwater aquariums and backpacking in the Sierras in his spare time.
