Can I get LASIK?

Can I Get LASIK?

Most likely, yes! About 98% of people who wear glasses or contacts qualify for LASIK. It can correct most cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism—sometimes in combination.

Basic LASIK Requirements

To be a good candidate for LASIK, you should:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be in good general health

  • Have a stable vision prescription (no major changes within the past year)

Alternatives to LASIK

If you’re among the few who don’t qualify for LASIK, there are still excellent options for achieving clearer vision:

Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA/PRK)

ASA/PRK uses the same excimer laser technology as LASIK but doesn’t involve creating a corneal flap. Instead, the eye’s outer surface layer is gently removed so the surgeon can reshape the cornea underneath.

The procedure is quick—usually less than a minute per eye—and painless. A protective contact lens is worn for several days afterward to help the surface heal. Most patients notice their vision improving over one to four weeks.

Refractive Lensectomy

While LASIK and ASA reshape the cornea, refractive lensectomy corrects vision by replacing the eye’s natural lens with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL)—the same technology used in modern cataract surgery.

This option is often ideal for patients with more severe prescriptions or early lens changes. And because the natural lens is replaced, you’ll never need cataract surgery in the future!

With over 30 years of combined surgical experience, our doctors use the most advanced technology to ensure your comfort and the best possible visual results.
