Dr. Couillard was born in Saginaw, MI, and spent his childhood in Newark, OH. He attended Normal Community High School after his family moved to Bloomington-Normal, and then he studied Pre-Medicine at Illinois State University. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 1978 and has been practicing in Bloomington-Normal since.
He is a member of the American and Illinois Optometric Associations and was part of the AOA’s Sports Vision program for many years. Dr. Couillard has served Illinois State University athletics as optometrist to many of the athletes.
Dr. Couillard says the best part of working in Optometry is interacting with patients and being privileged to care for their visual needs.
In his spare time, Dr. Couillard enjoys golfing and attending any and all ISU Athletic events. He is an active member at Kiwanis Club of Bloomington and served as President in 2006. His wife, Jan, is a retired District 87 speech pathologist, and together they share five sons and eight grandchildren.
